The inspiration behind Ultraleggera stems from a shift in the way we use our living spaces. As Sahin observes, saloons are no longer just for entertaining guests; they have become multifunctional spaces where work, entertainment, and rest coexist. This transformation of domestic spaces necessitated a design that could cater to these evolving needs.
Ultraleggera is not just a laptop table. It is a versatile piece of furniture that can serve as a coffee table, a storage unit, and a workstation. It is designed to accommodate various seating positions without restricting mobility. It is lightweight, easy to move around, and can be used on different seating units, making it a perfect fit for the modern, flexible lifestyle.
The table is made from processed beech and 2mm thick plywood using turning machine and CNC production methods. It is designed to be as light as an adult can carry with one finger, making it easy to move around the house. The dimensions of the table are 500mm x 400mm x 470mm, and it is designed to fit a laptop and mouse comfortably.
One of the unique features of Ultraleggera is its design for laptop use. Sahin has thoughtfully incorporated a rectangular piece in the upper part of the table to adjust the viewing angle and provide ventilation for the laptop. The table also features a pocket for storing objects like chargers and headphones when not in use.
The design process of Ultraleggera began in March 2016 and was completed in June 2016 in Istanbul, Turkey. It was exhibited at Salt Galata, Istanbul in July 2016 and at the Dutch Design Week in October 2016. The product is currently housed at the Design Academy Eindhoven.
Ultraleggera is a testament to Sahin's innovative approach to design. By observing and understanding the changing dynamics of domestic spaces, Sahin has created a product that is not just functional but also reflective of our evolving lifestyles. It is a design that truly embodies the spirit of modern domesticity.
